Austin-Healey 100-6
Who would have thought in 2012 that buying my first oldtimer would change our view on old cars completely?
From the moment the Austin Healey arrived from the US into Switzerland, I started driving the car. In the beginning my wife Tessa was very sceptical. Her idea of an oldtimer was that this would be very unreliable and mostly broken. But the car prove her wrong. Although her new Alfa Spider gave her many problems, my Healey was always there for us and we both just loved driving it all the time in all the seasons. In the meantime we did a lot of car rallies in summer and in winter. We are now both totally oldtimer lovers and both driving around in these kind of cars. Unfortunately I drive my Austin Healey not as much as I should, but every time I drive it, it is still the same thrilling feeling. You never forget your first love!
The Austin-Healey 100-6 is a two-seat roadster that was announced in late September 1956 and produced from 1956 to 1959. A replacement for the Austin-Healey 100, it was followed by the Austin-Healey 3000; together, the three models have become known as the Big Healeys.
The 100-6 featured a 2 in (50.8 mm) longer wheelbase than the 100, a more powerful straight-six engine in place of its slightly larger inline-four, and added two occasional seats (which later became optional). The body lines were slightly streamlined, a smaller, wider radiator grille placed lower, an air scoop was added to the bonnet, and the windscreen fixed.
